OUTDOOR SERVICE GUIDES*
"The Outdoor Service Guides* believe that all people and all families should have an equal place in the scouting movement. We welcome scouts and their families as they come to us, and we will do our best to make scouting and its activities accessible to every child or adult who wishes to join. Our mission statement is as follows:
We welcome everyone, regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, class, ability, religion (or no religion), or other differentiating factors. Our mission is to provide a positive learning environment within the context of democratic participation and social justice. We foster the development of scouts in an environment of mutual respect and cooperation."

28th South Mountain, NJ
We are a group of individuals and families living near the South Mountain Reservation, bringing NJ its first Outdoor Service Guides scouting group. The Outdoor Service Guides offer inclusive, classic scouting to all in celebration and appreciation of all identities. We group scouts by age range, not by gender or other characteristics and offer entry points for all. The Outdoor Service Guides stand with the Black Lives Matter and other movements against racism and other forms of discrimination and hate. We are striving to become an anti-racist organization active in social justice and community service. Currently we meet 1-2x a month Sunday afternoons. Some of us have experience with other scout organizations while for some this is their first scouting experience.
We scout outdoors as often as we can, holding most of our meetings outside. We will meet even in rainy or cold weather so it's important our members have or borrow a good set of rain gear and layers. The 28th camps as a scout group 3-4 times a year and enjoys local camporees such as the PA/NJballoo Camp & the Northeast Moot.
Our group depends on its volunteers and ask our families to contribute by taking on various tasks that vary from assisting leaders to serving as grubmaster at camping trips.

*In May 2021 the Baden-Powell Service Association voted to change its name to the Outdoor Service Guides to decolonize our national scout organization and to better reflect our focus on the outdoors, community service and growth towards living the scout law & promise.
