Busy and bright!
This first official section is all about gathering as a group to try new skills and gain experience exploring the outdoors. Otters are 5-7 by 12/31 of the program year and learn by doing. The Otter Paws give Otters opportunities to be helpful, playful, creative and conservation minded. 6-8 Otters form a Den and Dens form a Raft.
Otters must be accompanied by at least one caregiver at all meetings, outings and camping trips.

The Blue Paw
This paw is the Activity Paw. Otters play sports, outdoor & card games and learn to play fair.
The Tan Paw
This paw is the Handicraft Paw. Otters create things and try their hand at tying knots & other scout skills.
The Red Paw
This paw is the Helping Paw. Otters learn to take care of their clothes, belongings and find ways to help other people at home, at camp & in the community.
The Green Paw
This paw is the Nature Paw. Otters learn how to Leave No Trace and to appreciate and take care of the environment.

The Safety Badge
To earn this badge, Otters learn about safety in and around their home, school, camp, playground and pools. Personal safety as well as how & when to ask for help is practiced.

The Camping Badge
The camping badge is awarded to Otters who camp five or more nights with their Otter Raft and/or family since becoming an Otter.

The Swimming Otter Badge
To earn this badge Otters must earn all 4 Paws, the Safety Badge and prepare to "Swim Up" to Timberwolves by learning & doing some things with our Timberwolves. This is the highest award an Otter can earn and is worn on their Timberwolf uniform after Swimming Up.
